NRA Personal Protection Course participants must be experienced shooters (mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm) to maximize what can be learned form the course.

Validation of shooting experience can be one of the following:

• NRA Basic Pistol Course Certification
• NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program (Pistol Disciplines)
• Pistol Qualification Card
• Military DD-214 with Pistol Qualification
• Concealed Carry Permit
• Passing the Pre-Course Evaluation
